JORAN van der Sloot, who became a daddy while behind prison bars, will never meet his daughter – if his Peruvian jailer continues to get his way, the killer’s wife tells The National ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview.

Leidy Figueroa, who married van der Sloot in a shock jailhouse wedding in July, gave birth to Dusha Trudie on Sept. 28 in Lima, Peru, while her husband was in a prison cell a thousand miles away that she describes as “worse than Guantanamo Bay.”

Dusha, named after van der Sloot’s grandmother, was born weighing a healthy 8 pounds – but Leidy tells The ENQUIRER the last couple months of her pregnancy were a huge strain.

The baby was too big, Leidy says, and labor left her with crip-
pling tiredness. “Joran is worried about his baby,” she said.

The killer, who is serving a 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores, is pushing to be transferred back to the Lima prison where his baby was conceived. But his fate is in the hands of Sergio Haro, a warden van der Sloot allegedly threatened to kill.

Haro transferred van der Sloot out of the cushy Piedras Gordas prison in August after he threatened to kill the warden for confiscating his cell phone.

At the prison in Lima, van der Sloot gave fellow inmates English lessons, enjoyed conjugal visits and made sculptures for Leidy. Now, he sits in a freezing Challapalca cell nearly 16,000 feet above sea level in the Andes
Mountains that Amnesty International once dubbed “cruel, inhuman and degrading.” Leidy and van der Sloot’s lawyer claim that the killer is a victim of corruption – and that he was transferred out of prison because he refused to pay a bribe. Leidy says the warden told van der Sloot he would never see his baby.

Leidy now fears van der Sloot, the main suspect in the 2005 disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway, will never come back to her.

While many speculate van der Sloot married her to avoid extradition to the U.S. on charges related to Natalee’s disappearance, his lawyer, Maximo Altez, says his wife is truly devoted.Altez said that Leidy went to visit Joran straight after he was moved to Challapalca, even daring to fly at eight months pregnantHis wife visited him there, eight months pregnant, risking her life,” he said. “They don’t let you board a plane more than six months pregnant. She tricked them telling them she was three or four months pregnant and she boarded the plane.”“They got married because they’re in love. Leidy loves him a lot, she worries about him. “This is a love story,” he said. “Leidy and he are very much in love.”
