MOM ON THE RUN

Marie Walsh is a model wife and mom and a tireless worker for charities. The San Diego homemaker is adored in her affluent community.

But in her long ago past lurked a dark secret that no one close to her suspected – not her husband, children, neighbors or friends.

She was an escaped convict who had broken out of jail 32 years ago. Her name was not Marie. It was Susan LeFevre.

As a 19-year-old serving a 10-20 year sentence on a drug conviction, she’d escaped in Michigan and built an entirely new life in California.

But the knock on the door she’d been dreading for more than three decades finally came in April after cops got an anonymous tip — and now she’s back behind bars as inmate No. 140217.

She’s facing the prospect of serving out her first sentence – plus an extra five years for escape.

The devoted wife and mom of three says her remarkable turnaround deserves consideration.

“When I was in prison I prayed I’d get out, and all I wanted was a family in my life. As far as I’m concerned, ‘Susan’ died in that prison. I tried to do the right thing.”
