PRESCRIPTION FOR MURDER
R. Stephen Scher
wrote a prescription for
murder - a deadly remedy
for a love triangle gone
terribly wrong.
The physician was so madly in
love with his best friend's wife, he
blew him away so he could have her
for himself.
But it took two decades for the law
to catch up with him - and another
decade before justice was finally
assured.
Now the diabolical doc is behind
bars for life after being convicted of
shooting lawyer Martin Dillon more
than 30 years ago while the buddies
were out skeet shooting.
Dr. Scher, now 67, started down
his ill-fated path in 1977, when he
began a torrid romance with married
nurse Patricia Dillon. Many at
the Montrose (Pa.) General Hospital
knew about their hook-up because
they flaunted it - locking themselves in an exam room, going lingerie
shopping together and hugging and
kissing in full view of others.
"They acted very inappropriately
in a work setting, and it made me
extremely embarrassed," said nurse
Ann Hart.
When Patricia's husband Martin
demanded she choose between
him and the doctor,
she made a fateful
decision to stay
with her husband.
Enraged, Dr. Scher
hatched a plan to
get rid of 30-year-old
Martin.
