Nicole Kidman is turning heartbreak into hope – by adopting a son as a tribute to her recently deceased father, The National ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

The Oscar-winning actress was devastated when Antony Kidman, a psychologist, died suddenly at age 75 in September, sources say.

“It sent Nicole into an emotional tailspin,” a close friend told The ENQUIRER.

“She’s been beside herself with grief and barely able to function. Simple tasks like getting out of bed and eating have
been difficult.”

The “To Die For” beauty, who’s married to country superstar Keith Urban, has also been dejected over not being able to give their daughters – Sunday, 6, and Faith, 3 – another sibling.

Nicole choked back tears during a recent interview when she admitted, “I hope every month that I’m pregnant, but I never am. I’m 47, it won’t happen.”

In the past, Nicole has opened up about suffering through an ectopic pregnancy and multiple miscarriages, as well as struggling with fertility issues.

Now with the loss of her beloved father, she’s determined to have another child – through any means necessary, according to close friends of the heartbroken star.

“Up until the end, Nicole’s dad begged her for a grandson,” said the source.

“For the longest time Nicole felt like a failure for not being able to fulfill that wish, but now she’s going to make it happen.

“Keith is on board because he knows how much family means to Nicole. So they’re planning on a domestic adoption.”

Nicole and ex-husband Tom Cruise adopted two children together, Connor, 19, and Isabella, 21, “so she isn’t intimidated by the task,” the source explained.

“Nicole and Keith are open to adopting a mixed-race child, but don’t want a drawn-out process.

“They’re hoping the little boy, who they want to name Antony after Nicole’s dad, is home with them by mid-2015.”
