Will Smith is denying reports that he's been drafted into the Church of Scientology.

"You don't have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg," Smith told the New York Daily News. "You don't have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammad Ali. And you don't have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise."

Rumors of a conversion surfaced after Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith were spotted on double dates with Tom and Katie Holmes, most recently at L.A.'s Cut restaurant last week.

But, Smith said, there were no conversions over coffee. "I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions. I respect all people and all paths."
