U2'S BONO PLAYS NAME GAME

In a tip of the hat to a Las Vegas legend, U2 superstar BONO kicked off his stadium concert at the gambling mecca with a line that cracked up the crowd: “Good Evening, ladies and gentlemen…My name is WAYNE NEWTON!”

Bono’s bon mot referred to the new showbiz record Wayne just set by inking his new gazillion$$ deal at the Tropicana – making him the ONLY entertainer to star on Sin City stages for 50 consecutive years, topping even ELVIS and SINATRA.

Wayne’s “headliner-in-residence” concept, copied by CELINE DION, ELTON JOHN, CHER, etc., was pioneered by Vegas deal-maker JACK WISHNA, who brokered the star’s original $250 million pact with the Stardust – and just sealed his new long-termer with mogul ALEX YEMENIDJIAN, the ex-MGM boss who’s transforming Tropicana into what the Vegas press dubbed “the Tiffany of The Strip.”

Wayne acknowledged Bono’s nod by opening his next show with: “Good Evening, ladies and gentlemen…My name is BONO!”
